Casey Veggies Talks About Where He Got His Name, Musical Influences & More.
We caught up with Casey Veggies during his last stop off his Canadian Tour in Toronto. Young Veggies’ tour stopped in Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal and last but not least Toronto! Fans lined the side walk in anticipation of his Meet & Greet session at the Community 54 store. Despite being in a room filled with cameras and people, Casey Veggies found the time to ask if he could wear his sunglasses throughout the entire interview. Not only is he young, humble, and hardworking he is a character with tons of charisma; yet, has a very clear idea of the direction in which he would like to take his career. Check out the interview below!
Welcome to Toronto!
Thank You.
How has the Canadian Tour been so far?
The tour has been very interesting. It is definitely doing everything for me that I wanted it to. Which is just introduce me to Canada the right way. You know what i’m saying? And get my feet wet out here.
How is LA different from Toronto?
Definitely Toronto just represents more of a east coast vibe. Its just like the difference between Los Angeles and New York. You know what i’m saying?… in the United States.Toronto is more like New York. Its more unique. I would say Montreal, and Toronto they represent a real east-like vibe but then again they have this foreign thing about them that I like.
So many people want to know how you got a name like Casey Veggies?
Ummm it came very randomly. It happened years back and it just branched off the whole Peas and Carrots thing. We had Peas and Carrots before my name was Casey Veggies but the fact that we came up with Peas and Carrots as a brand I just decided to keep it going even further. I was like Fuck it my name is Casey Veggies. And you know veggies are good for you so, I was like its going to work out.
In a previous interview you said, your music represents high school students, college students, and a whole other youth.
I just really want to represent the youth and show that as an artist, a young kid can do different things and great things and not just rap about dancing and partying. But we can rap about stuff that really makes you think and that’s the main goal. It is to represent the youth in a great way and show people around the world that young people can be cool and do good with it.
You also said that Kanye West and Nas inspired you. What about their music inspired you and why?
When I heard their Illmatic and College Dropout albums, I just noticed that they were doing something that hasn’t been done before in general, in music period. So, I feel like as an artist that was one of my main motivations, to create music that nobody had ever done before. That really pushed the bar and showed people that you can take a little more time with it and really make something special. That was the main motivation I got from it.
Where do your musical influences come from?
Just what I began to listen to and when I got into Hip Hop I was 12…13 and started studying the game and going on blogs everyday and really paying attention. And that’s around the time that Kanye dropped that first album. He’s definitely one of my favorite artists to this day.
Being a young artist, do you ever feel pressure in terms of having to live up to a certain expectation and what keeps you humble through all the success you continue to see?
Ummm Yea sometimes but then again I just try to wipe it off and keep going because at the end of the day that’s what got me here. I just try to keep that same vision I had when I was younger which was not to worry about what anybody else thought. The minute you start worrying about what everyone else thinks that’s when things begin to crumble so, I just keep it positive. At the end of the day I’m confident with what i’m doing and that’s the main goal.
If you could have one item customized what would it be?
I would customize a car.
What kind of car?
A Mercedes-Benz with wings so I can fly sometimes. {Laughs}
What colour?
It would be blue.
I have three phrases I want you to finish for me. Casey Veggies is…..
